How to answer

Choose “Yes” only when the requirement is applied in practice and there is documentation or records. “Partly” means it is done informally or not everywhere.

Commitment and data

Is there an approved zero-waste policy with a measurable diversion target?

Has a waste characterisation study been carried out (what is produced, how much and where)?

Are the quantities of each waste stream recorded with weighbridge tickets or other documents, for at least 12 months?

Is the landfill diversion rate calculated with a clear methodology?

Waste hierarchy

Are source-reduction measures in place (e.g. less packaging, waste-free purchasing)?

Are there reuse practices (pallets, containers, materials)?

Is waste separated at source and handed over to licensed recycling and composting operators?

Is hazardous waste managed separately and lawfully?

Do you know how each stream is finally treated (and whether that includes energy recovery)?

Organisation and verification

Has a person responsible been appointed, and are staff trained in separating and reducing waste?

Is waste taken into account in purchasing and in contracts with suppliers?

Are the data and the waste management operators checked internally before external verification?
